El Niño or El "Letdown" - Bamboo Safari in Los Angeles

El Niño or El "Letdown",  I'm sitting at my desk sweating watching heat waves ripple off the pavement. What happened to the foretold biblical downpour, the great drought ending winter of '16, the mudslides, the flooding, the excitement. Ya feel?

It's true, it has been raining steadily in Northern California and the Sierra snowpack is in decent shape considering the last several years, but down here in Southern California all I can do is sit in my chair on my dead lawn and dream of a tropical Los Angeles. A Los Angeles with a real flowing river, a Los Angeles with ambient jungle animal noises, a Los Angeles that is pretty much just Miami - except with great Mexican Food and The Lakers.

A new container of goodies just came in last week, and it was full of beautiful bamboo furniture perfect for my tropical Los Angeles dream. Come take a look at some these new treasures! They're not going to last long..

Seemingly being generally out of fashion after the boom of the 1960's and 1970's, West German pottery has been gaining massive popularity and a dedicated collector base that appreciates its style and eccentric aesthetic. Vogue Features Brooklyn’s Newest Brewery, Grimm, Outfitted by Amsterdam Modern

Grimm Artisanal Ales Brewery ,  a sleek yet airy space on Metropolitan Avenue with sitting room for 45,  which opens June 30.  The Chairs are from (none other than) Amsterdam Modern . SAFARI

While the word Safari might normally conjure thoughts of wild animals and outdoor adventures, it has always brought to my mind two very sexy and classic chairs, often imitated and thoroughly gorgeous. The Safari Chair , a Kaare Klint designed easy chair, was created in collaboration with his pupil Edvard Kindt-Larsen in 1930 and manufactured by Rud Rasmussen, Denmark for Kaare Klint. The Sirocco easy chair by Arne Norell, was created circa 1960 and produced for Norell Mobel AB.     The most innovative design feature of this style chair is its collapsable nature. It can be disassembled and included on what I imagine to be the most well designed and modern safari trip ever. I would assume it is probably more at home in your living room than the savanna. We have a few Safari chairs available currently, check out this very unusual version with a rosewood frame with cow hide seat or this Klaare Klint original with black leather upholstery .
